Our Story
Reclaiming Strength, Dignity, and Purpose
The Skillful Mama (TSM) is more than a support service; it's a sanctuary built on the radical belief that a mother's well-being is a lifeline, not a luxury.
We exist to help mothers rebuild themselves from the inside out, providing the crucial structure, tools, and support they need to be regulated and resourced. When a mother is regulated, the whole home shifts.
Historically, women have been taught to give endlessly until they fall apart. At TSM, we challenge that narrative. We believe motherhood should be supported, not endured, and that prioritizing your peace is a powerful form of resistance.
Brittni is a proud Khoisan woman living on Boonwurrung Country. She is a domestic violence advocate and speaker who founded The Skillful Mama (TSM) with a dedication to supporting mothers and families to rebuild their lives, and to ensure they never have to face institutions or systems alone again.
Brittni also works alongside organisations and event spaces, protecting and preparing First Nations women who are retelling their stories publicly. From phone calls to emails, she handles the load so women can focus on what truly matters: standing in their truth, being heard, and being safe. Her advocacy is grounded in truth-telling, cultural respect, and the belief that healing is not a luxury, it is a right.
TSM strives to provide:
Education and advocacy to raise awareness about domestic and family violence, with a focus on breaking intergenerational cycles of harm.
Culturally safe, trauma-informed support, ensuring families feel seen, respected, and empowered.
Her mission is simple yet powerful — to create calmer, safer homes where women and children can thrive, not just survive. Her work weaves together advocacy, community, and faith, reminding mothers everywhere that reclaiming peace and power in their lives is possible and deserved. This work is about restoration, community, spirit, and cultural justice. It is about strong voices and safe futures for all First Nations women, and for future generations.
About Brittni, Founder of The Skillful Mama
One on one support with Brittni
Brittni walks beside women as they heal, rebuild, and reclaim their power. She supports women navigating domestic and family violence not only through recovery, but through every layer of resistance and renewal, by creating safety plans, building protective barriers, accessing the right services, and anchoring into cultural and spiritual strength.
Drawing from her lived experience as a survivor of systemic, family, and sexual violence, Brittni brings both compassion and strength to her work. She understands the realities of coercive control, systemic barriers, and the emotional toll violence takes on women and children.
Her work is both personal and professional. She provides faith-led, emotional, and spiritual support to women attending court, dealing with services, or telling their stories. She is a calm, culturally grounded presence in rooms that are often confronting.
